Thank you so much. That really means a lot to me. I was hoping to capture both the love and the complexity of it without pretending any of it is simple.
Thank you for sharing this precious weekend with us. I am happy that you were able to have a lovely weekend with your daughter and that your other daughter was able to let you know that she wasn't OK. I am struck by the complexity of taking care of the needs of all three of you and the grace with which you negotiate all of this. 🙏
I feel that ache between the disappointment of not getting more time "off" and yet being glad to see my girl again. We had moments like this, especially when our daughter was in an eating disorder treatment center. I remember also how my other two kids needed attention and how that break gave us the much-needed time. And all my complicated feelings about it. I am so glad you got this time with your daughter before college.
I’m sorry your family went through that with your daughter. Thank you for sharing this and reminding me I’m not alone in feeling both grateful for the break and glad to have my girl home. And yes, I’m especially thankful for that time with Mallory before college.
Denise, happy that you got that special time with Mallory that you both needed so much. I guess this is a bit like what parents of young kids experience when there's a sleepover or they go away to camp and want to come home.
I love that you and Mallory were both focusing on the positive time you'll be able to treasure rather than that the time got cut short.
Thanks for sharing your San Antonio experience. I worked onsite for a company as a Wellness Coach there for a short-term assignment and got to explore a bit as a benefit.
Thank you, Melanie! Yes, it was a bit like an early camp pickup, with a few extra layers. I’m grateful Mallory and I had those 48 hours together. San Antonio was such a fun city to explore!
Denise you do such a wonderful job of loving your family and knowing when you have to trade one thing for another to keep them safe and happy. I know it's not easy and I'm sure you are worn down some days but you are doing it.
This was such a beautiful and honest depiction of what parenting a child with complex needs feels like!

Thank you Davina. It is a constant balancing act, I don’t always handle it gracefully, but I’m grateful when everyone gets what they need.

You have to embrace an opportunity for fun and self-care while you got it. You guys do it well. 💕
Thanks Jeni!
Thank you!
I love how you illustrated holding two opposing emotions at the same time. 🤍
Thank you for reading!
Thank you for capturing and sharing the complexity of all these emotions. I’m glad you and Mallory were able to get that time together 🫶
Thank you Susie! I’m glad too!
I feel every word of truth here. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. It means a lot to know this resonated, and that I’m not alone in feeling all of it.
